Northbridge

Northbridge takes its name from the bridge that we commonly know as Long Gully Bridge. That bridge was built in 1892 and it is absolutely the striking iconic image for Northbridge.

For a suburb with immense value, it is somewhat surprising that before the bridge was built, the land was considered to have little value and no one wanted to develop it. After the bridge was built and particularly after WWI, Northbridge started to grow into what we know and love today.

  • Northbridge is a community suburb, and it is very popular with families. It also boasts amazing waterways and parks, making it a great location for kayaking, boating, fishing and other outdoor activities.

The somewhat iconic Northbridge Baths is worth a visit too for those who want to swim in a natural waterway free from waves or most sea life. As well, Tunks Park is not just great to look at but is also a great park to spend time in.

  • Northbridge is home to the Northbridge Plaza which boasts some great shopping, cafes and restaurants. It is also surrounded by more shops, restaurants and small businesses. Here’s a shout out to Le Petit Ballet which is absolutely on our recommendation list!

Going for the deep dive down Sailors Bay Road, you will find Bonds Corner which is a very popular café that the non-locals may not have discovered yet.

  • Northbridge is very much a family suburb. It boasts around 75% of the homes being made up of families with the next significant group being singles and couples. It does have a slightly older demographic than some of the other areas of the North Shore but this is not something you would notice without doing a statistical deep dive.

  • Like much of the North Shore, there are areas with bushfire and flood risks in Northbridge. However, this is a balance with living in such a beautiful natural area. Northbridge also has beautiful waterways and parks that are protected from development.
